salut mes nouveaux amis

I go through new bands like New Yorkers go through disposable coffee cups. However my newest addiction is a little "out there" as some people say. They are self-titled, School of Seven Bells (SVIIB) is named after a rumoured pickpocket academy (how edgy eh?) They sound like fairies that got their feet stuck on a reverb pedal. Do not how ever, assume that that is a bad thing... two women and the former guitarist of Secret Machines form a trio of garageband porportions mixed with fabulously clear backbeats and an indie beckoning of magnanomous proportions. So feel free to wear your Tom's and appropriote slouchy winter beany and impress your pack of friends with this band that does not hit Top 40. (Possibly because they lack the innovation...just a side note.) Moving on swiftly from that little digg at my new Brooklyn friends, they are worth a second so check em. Particularly the fan favorite "Half Asleep", woot to you all they have a myspace AND they are itunes (maybe they are Top 40 bound, ha!)

Democratic Design

Christophe Lemaire, designer for Lacoste, stated:

"We're coming to the end of fashion craziness, due in part to the economic situation. People want timeless, street-inspired design rather then artificial, media-drive trends, and that's why, no doubt, Lacoste has been doing better every year. It's not that I don't add spice to each collection-I do. It's just that democratic design is the priority. Nothing makes me happier then seeing our polos worn by London cabbies, New York club kids, and the king of Spain!"

My new favorite thing.

There are also more ways to wear this simple piece of fabric but basically it is fabulous. Not to mention the perfect thing to travel with. Check it at americanapparel or try to make it yourself... (just buy it you know you won't make it...)

economic crisis?

Whether you think we are facing an impending economic crisis or are saving up for this seasons D & G Lily Satchel (he he click to see my very favorite) you may need to cut back on spending and cut out unnecessary costs. If this is the case then try out this excessively user-friendly darling little website: http://sisterlysavings.net/ and start your increasing your funds ASAP!

Sidenote: It is snowing outside and on my drive dropping my two girls off at school and driving to work I decided on a throwback to David Gray's first album White Ladder from 1999...yep, just as I thought, still a crowd pleaser!

pakistan

I want to go to Pakistan and here are a few reasons why:

K2

Baltoro Glacier
Lake Saiful Muluk

Litter and then some.

Well I was sitting innocently in my bed thinking about what the world is coming to and my roomie read the jist of this story out loud. Not only are we littering our earth, now we are littering in outerspace... and I would love to know what this silly astronauts fines were for this "accident" read the accompanying article and tell me how one mistakenly drops a "refrigerator sized piece of garbage" out of a space station. WHAT? Okay I am done now and would like to end on a positive note, not an irate one so for those of you that have suffered through my soap box...here is your reward:

Again last night I had that strange dream
Where everything was exactly how it seemed
Where concerns about the world getting warmer
The people thought they were just being rewarded
For treating others as they'd like to be treated
For obeying stop signs and curing diseases
For mailing letters with the address of the sender
Now we can swim any day in November
